Integrating Authenticity And Vulnerability Into Our Work Personas With Mike Robbins
In the latest episode, I talk to Mike Robbins about integrating authenticity and vulnerability into our work personas and our personal lives and in doing so, creating a safe space for open emotional expression so that we can all speak our truth, live more honest lives, raise emotionally intelligent kids, and contribute to building a world that has a lot more understanding and a lot less judgement.
Mike Robbins is an author, a former pro baseball player, a sought-after keynote speaker, and a media personality. He has also been a guest on hundreds of TV and radio shows throughout the United States and Canada and his work has been featured in several publications. Mike is also the host and creator of his own podcast, We're All in This Together, and previously hosted two internet radio shows. Mike’s fifth book, We're All in This Together, just came out.
We discuss-
- Which piece of his content (the books, ted talks, all the articles, and the interviews) is Mike most invested in, to date.
- How to pursue big goals + bring our ‘A-Game’ at work without self-distorting?
- Despite the insecurities engendered by the pandemic, people are moving towards more purposeful, authentic career choices; is there a way for us to bring all that to our corporate careers so we don’t feel compelled to take unsustainable risks?
- When we are in our work environment (especially, in a leadership capacity), is there a way for us to make space for our emotions without fearing that it would make us look less ready & qualified for the job?
- How do we embrace vulnerability without feeling exposed and ashamed? Why it’s important to do that, not just for our own selves but for others as well?
- The value of intentionality when it comes to personal interactions and life choices, and how it helps us nurture and create more secure environments.?
- What did Mike learn from his experience sharing personal stories with people all over the world? How did he feel in the moment and after? How did he get past the fear of vulnerability?
- When our performance is a key metric for inclusion, we are bound to feel judged, how do we create a sense of security and belonging in such spaces?
